We would have loved to welcome you into school this evening to share with you a variety of information and resources focused on how we teach the children their early reading skills. It should have been a great opportunity for you to spend time together with other families from the group and to speak to the staff from the Reception class. I apologise that due to Covid 19’s presence, we are not able to do this.
Instead, we have a video for you to watch at your leisure – perhaps settle down with a drink of your choice and some nibbles. Hopefully, it will support your understanding of a very specific teaching sequence based on developing a rich phonic understanding. Phonics instruction teaches children how to decode letters into their respective sounds, a skill that is essential for them to read unfamiliar words by themselves. I am sure that you will be amazed by how quickly your children find confidence and enjoyment in reading. It is such a crucial skill that impacts on learning and progress in all subjects.
Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Miss Waite or Miss Arter – details are provided on the video. The way we teach phonics now is certainly very different to how we learnt it in school.
The video can be watched from the parent Google drive.
